Summary of
Modern Studies on Huoxiang Zhengqi (SummerEase™) Capsule
Chinese
Use: Cold, acute
gastroenteritis, acute or chronic colonitis, urticaria, acidosis, ringworm of
the body, dermatitis.
Modern studies on
pharmacodynamics reveal that this product yields effects of anti-convulsion,
analgesia, bacteriostatic, promotion of intestine peristalsis, promotion of
intestinal absorption, antiemesis, and promotion of cellular immunity.
1.
Anti-convulsion: It
reveals marked anti-convulsive effect. The normal rate of inhibition for rabbit
intestine in vitro is 73.8% when the concentration is 8.55×10-4g/ml. Meantime, it also inhibits its
convulsion induced by acetylcholine, barium-chloride, the rate of convulsion
are 61.8% and 68.3% respectively. Low concentration sample yields biphasic
regulation, while high concentration, inhibition. It also inhibits
acetylcholine.
2.
Analgesia: Marked
analgesic effect for pain induced by acetic acid (torsion method). Capsule form
is antagonistic to pain induced by potassium antimony tartrate. For pain
induced by heat plate method, this product increases pain threshold to 10% in
90 minutes.
3.
Bacteriostasis: It
reveals bacteriostatic action on 8 kinds of bacteria including lutea-sarcina,
especially effective for sarcina and staphylococcus aureas.
4.
Promotion of
peristalsis of stomach and intestine: Marked effect on the transmission of
digestive tract in mice is revealed with solution and capsule forms.
Experimental group reveals milder promoting velocity of peristalsis than the
control-group, demonstrating its inhibition action.
5.
Promotion of absorption
of digestive tract: Diarrhea mice model reveal increase of absorption of
glucose and water in the liver and blood, thus, absorption of the digestive
tract after diarrhea has been checked and restored.
6.
Antiemesis: Infuse
pigeon with 11.4% solution 20ml/kg. After 5 minutes, 1.5% CuSO4
solution in 20ml/kg dose is infused. As compared with the control group, there
is significant difference in the latent period of vomiting and frequency of
vomiting, demonstrating that this product doesn’t cause vomiting, but yields
antiemetic action.
7.
Strengthening cellular
immunity: Mice model of diarrhea induced by MgSO4 are treated with
this product. The result reveals increase of index of peripheral lymphocytic
infiltration of 3H-TdR, but it is lower in the control group than in the normal
(no diarrhea) groups. The experimental group is close to normal groups,
demonstrating that this product increase the immunity in mice, and promotes the
healing of intestine segment after injury.
Studies on Toxicology: 53.2% of this product in the dose of 25ml/kg (583
times higher than man’s dosage), twice a day for 7 days. No fatal animal
reported.
Clinically this
product is commonly used in common cold, acute gastro-enteritis, acute and
chronic colitis, urticaria, tinea and dermatitis, acidosis.
1. Common cold: For those of external wind-cold, with
internal block of phlegmatic dampness, cold, chill, headache, stuffy chest, painful
epigastrium, vomiting and diarrhea, this product is commonly used. For flu of
the type dampness stagnated in the spleen, the effect is satisfactory. 34 cases
of infantile summer cold, solution of this product yielded good results. Of the
20 cases of fever in cold, 5 cases were markedly effective, 13 effective, 2
cases non-effective.
2. Gastro-intestinal diseases: 112 cases of
gastroenteritis were all cured with modified product. For gastro-intestinal
diseases of the type of internal block of damp-turbidity, spleen disturbed by
cold dampness resulting in malfunction of the spleen, manifesting stuffy chest,
abdominal distention, diarrhea, with white thick fur and soft pulse, the
results were satisfactory of the 96 cases of infantile autumn diarrhea, 8 cases
had diarrhea arrested after 12~48 hrs; 24 cases, after 48~72 hrs., 85 cases
were cured, 6 cases effective, 5 cases non-effective, the cured rate being
88.5%, total effective rate, 94.7%. The time for cure is averagely 7 days. For
infantile dyspepsia, 63 cases were treated, with 24 cases diarrhea arrested in
1 day; 21 cases, in 2 days; 12 cases, in 3 days; 4 cases, in 5 days; 2 cases
ineffective.
Urticaria: 32 cases were treated. The maximal dosage of administration was 35; minimal dose being 3 doses, all were cured.
