Summary of
Modern Studies on Ganweishu (Stomach Peace™) Capsule
Chinese Use: Chronic gastritis, endogastritis.
Modern studies on
pharmacodynamics reveal that this product yields actions of anti-convulsion, anti-virus,
inducing interferon, sedation, lowering of body temperature, increasing blood
pressure, anti-shock, anti-arrhythmia, cardiotonic, promoting cerebral blood
flow, anti-platelet aggregation, inhibition of in vitro thrombosis,
protecting the liver, detoxication, anti-inflammation and analgesia.
1. Anti-convulsion: For anti-ulcer, it is 100%. The
water extract alcohol precipitated form inhibits the contraction of intestinal
smooth muscle, slows down the frequency and shortens its amplitude. It also
antagonizes the spasmodic contraction of intestine induced by acetylcholine and
barium chloride. Sini Powder is capable of anti-experimental ulcer. When rat is
fasting for 3 hours, ether anesthesia, ligation of pylorus are administered,
followed by infusion of alcohol extract of Sini powder into the duodenum,
8ml/kg, then the animal continues the fasting and interruption of water for
another 12 hrs. Kill the rat and let out its blood, and observe the ulcer in
its stomach. Results show that the index of ulcer in the experimental group and
difference of its average number are significantly different from that of the
control group.
2. Anti-virus, inducing interferon: Decoction of this
product reveals certain anti VSV virus in cellular culture, manifesting direct
killing of virus, inhibition of viral proliferation, and protection on virus
attacking cell. Sini Powder also promotes NDN induced interferon, with direct
induction of its production.
3. Sedation, lowering of body temperature: 10% Sini
Powder 0.1ml/10g and 2.5% Decoction of Fructus Aurantii immaturus 0.1ml/10g
injected intraperitoneally all strengthens the hypnotic action of sodium
pentobarbital, indicating that Sini-powder yields sedative action on CNS. In
addition, Decoction of Sini-powder is perfused into the stomach 20g/kg at 20ºC room temperature. It is found that it lowers the
normal body temperature in mice.
4. Liver protection, detoxication, anti-inflammation,
analgesia: single drug Radix Bupleura or Radix Glycyrrhizae yields anti-liver
injury action. The latter also has detoxication action. Both, and Radix Paeonia
alba yield anti-inflammation effect. Radix Bupleuri is also an analgesic.
Toxicological studies: The LD50 of Ganweishu capsule, when
injected intraperitoneally is 122.9g/kg in mice; for i.v., it is 22.4g/kg. Sini
Powder Decoction 15g/kg administered to rat, q.d. for 20 days, show no changes
in its body weight, GPT, and BUN.
