Summary of Modern Studies on Xinyi Tongbi (NosEase™) Capsule

Chinese Use: Acute or chronic rhinitis, acute or chronic nasosinusitis, rhinopolypus, irritable rhinitis, atrophic rhinitis.

Modern studies on pharmacodynamics show that this product yields effects of bacteriostasis, antiphlogosis, improving body immunity, local astringency, and stimulation.

1. Bacteriostasis: ingredients like Fructus Xanthii, Fructus Forsythiae, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Radix Ledebouriellae, Herba Schizonepetae possess bacteriostatic action on staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus, diplococcus pneumoniae. Some of them are also effective for fungus.

2. Antiphlogosis: animal experiments reveal that Fructus Forsythiae, Radix Platycodi, Radix Glycyrrhiza, and, Radix Ledebouriellae yield marked antiphlogistic action, which is related to lowering of capillary permeability, decrease inflammatory exudation, interfere with intracellular oxidation. Some of the ingredients yield its antiphlogistic action through the adrenal cortex.

3. Improvement of immunity: The ingredients like Fructus Forsythiae, Radix Platycodi, Fructus Schisandrae can increase body resistance through strengthening of cellular phagocytosis, leukocytic bactericidal action and increasing the bacteriolytic activity.

4. Local astringency and stimulation: Experiments prove that Flos Magnoliae can produce astringent action on nasal mucosa. Due to capillary constriction, improvement of local circulation, the inflammation exudates can be absorbed, inflammation mitigated, nasal passage ventilated, symptoms ameliorated; Radix Platycodi also stimulates local part to improve its circulation thus increase the local secretion for protection of mucous membrane, hence, improvement of inflammation.

Clinically, the product is applied in acute and chronic rhinitis, acute and chronic rhino-sinusitis, nasal polyps, allergic rhinitis and atrophic rhinitis.

1. Rhinitis: This product yielded better effect on acute rhinitis than the chronic rhinitis with rapid improvement of symptoms. For running nose, stuffy nose in common cold, secretion markedly decreased 2~3 days after administration, with ventilation improved, and cured after 5 days. In 27 cases of chronic rhinitis, 22 were cured, 5 cases improved.

2. Nasal sinusitis: Most cases revealed marked decrease in secretion, ventilation improves after 1 week (a course). For single infection (pure purulent secretion), effect is better than those with allergy (serous secretion or purulent-serous secretion) of the 91 cases treated, 66 were acute type, 61 of them were cured, 5 improved, in 25 chronic cases, 5 were cured, 20 improved.
