Summary of
modern studies on Danshen Shuxiong (Coronary Ease™) Tablet
Chinese Use: Coronary heart disease, dysmenorrhea.
Modern studies on pharmacodynamics reveal that this formula
yields anti-cardiac ischemia, anti-anoxia, dilating coronary arteries and anti-
arrhythmia effects.
1.
Anti-cardiac ischemia
and anti-anoxia: Gastric infusion of compound Danshen tablet fluid extract
3.5g/kg or peritoneal injection 13.5g/kg all markedly prolong the anoxic
bearing time under normal pressure in mice, and is antagonistic to T-wave
change in cardiac ischemic EKG in rat induced by pituitrin.

Dilatation of coronary
arteries: In vitro experiment, 0.1-0.2ml liquid extract of
compound Danshen tablet markedly increases the heart blood flowing in guinea
pig. This action is proportional to the concentration of the extract. The
extract also increases the coronary circulation of the heart in cardiac failure
due to anoxia.

Anti-arrhythmia: Gastric
infusion of compound Danshen tablet liquid extract 10g/kg markedly inhibits the
ventricular fibrillation in mice induced by chloroform. It also shortens the
arrhythmic time in rat induced by barium chloride. Radix notoginseng shows
protective action on ventricular fibrillation in mice induced by chloroform and
arrhythmia induced by barium chloride and aconitin, and arrhythmia in
anesthetized rabbit induced by venous injection of adrenalin.
Clinically, this product is applied in coronary heart disease, post-traumatic
neurasthenia syndrome, pigmented purpuric dermatosis and dysmenorrhea etc.

Coronary cardiac
disease: 415 cases were treated with this product. Analysis on the effect on
377 cases with angina pectoris revealed the total effective rate to be 85.6%,
and the marked effective rate was 34.7%. Analysis on EKG in 329 cases revealed
that 58.1% of the patients had improvement in ECG, its markedly effective rate
was 20.1%.

Post-traumatic brain
injury with neurasthenia syndrome: 122 cases were treated with this product,
the total effective rate being 90.2%, the effective rate was 38.8 higher than
that of the control group, the difference being significant. The
rheoencephalogram revealed that this product yielded better vascular elasticity
than before the medication.

Pigmented purpuric
dermatosis: 42 cases were treated with this products plus Bazhen Yimu Pill with
a total effective rate of 90.5%. For cases with irregular menstruation, it was
cured after the dermatosis ameliorated.
Dysmenorrhea and others: Most cases of dysmenorrhea were cured after treatment. There are also reports demonstrated that it also yielded certain effect in superficial scleritis and secondary epilepsy in children. When coordinated with other patented Chinese drugs, this product also yield good results, viz. with Shengmai Yin for stuffy chest and panting; with Jinlu Pill for deficient heart-yin; with Erchen Pill for dysfunction of the spleen.
