Gerovital GH3 Overview
Ana Aslan (1897-1988) was a Romanian biologist and physician who discovered the anti-aging effects of procaine on which she developed the formulas Gerovital H3 and Aslavital. She is considered to be a pioneer of gerontology and geriatrics in Romania. Ms Aslan founded the Geriatric Institute of Bucharest in 1952 which was the first in the world to be recognized by the World Health Organization.
While researching the pain-relieving effects of procaine, Aslan developed the formula Gerovital in 1952. Together with Elena Polovrageanu, she created an improved formula marketed as Aslavital (1961). The beneficial effects of Gerovital have been scientifically recognized although not all studies were consistent in the area of anti-aging.
The ingredients of the Gerovital formulation are procaine hydrochloride, ascorbic acid, citric acid, benzoic acid, potassium metabisulphite and disodium phosphate. The active ingredient is the procaine and the other ingredients serve as buffering and stabilizing agents. The original formulation of Gerovital is essential for it to have any beneficial effect.
Procaine hydrochloride, the main active ingredient of GH3, is created by combining two, water soluble B-vitamins: para-amino benzoic acid (PABA) and diethylaminoethanol (DEAE). Both are found naturally within the body and are important for good health. Though PABA and DEAE can be taken separately, they are not readily absorbed since both carry an electrical charge. When combined into a procaine molecule, PABA and DEAE become ionized and are readily absorbed by the body.
Gerovital is recommended for people over 40 to slow the aging process.
One of Gerovital's main actions is an anti-depressant effect calming the mind and body. In recent years Gerovital has been found to have a cortisol-inhibiting effect. Cortisol is produced in the body as a natural response to stress; however, when chronic stress is present, it causes an over-production of cortisol. There are many negative effects of cortisol over-production, including memory loss, suppression of the immune system, and a shortened life span. Exhaustion of the adrenal gland that produces cortisol may also occur resulting in a condition known as adrenal fatigue resulting from a cortisol deficiency.
As we age, we are susceptible to a substance known as MAO (monoamie oxidase, an enzyme) building up in our brains in excessive amounts leading to depression. MAO is vital to the body’s proper functioning but is harmful when elevated. The DEAE factor in Gerovital balances MAO to a correct level eliminating depression. It is the only “safe” product capable of doing this without damaging the mechansism which produces MAO. Gerovital is a mild, reversible MAO inhibitor, which means that it is extremely safe to use since it allows necessary MAO to perform when needed by the brain or liver.
Although the pharmacologic action of Gerovital is not wholly understood, the observed results over the past 50 years, of extensive use by millions of people worldwide, shows that Gerovital does the following:
- Ÿ Improves cell metabolism slowing the normal symptoms of the aging process
- Ÿ Gently dilates and cleanses blood vessels, improving circulation throughout the body
- Ÿ Strengthens hair, skin and nails
- Ÿ Lowers cholesterol levels, decreasing LDL while increasing HDL
- Ÿ Balances MAO levels preventing age-related depression
- Ÿ Increases energy and lessens of joint stiffness
- Ÿ Restores balanced level of MAO preventing age-related depression and low energy
- Ÿ Inhibits overproduction of cortisol which causes weight gain and cell damage leading to premature aging
- Ÿ Produces a sense of overall well-being
Gerovital improves the homeostasis of the body; the balance of the diverse systems of the body is enhanced, which has been described as the definition of health itself.
How long does Gerovital take to work?
Most people will feel the mildly euphoric effects of GH3 within 1-3 days of first taking it. For the total actions of GH3 to fully take effect, 3-6 months usage is recommended; usage may be continued with periodic short breaks indefinitely, or repeated as a cycle once or twice per year.
Tierra Mega-Nutrients’ Gerovital is the exact laboratory duplication of Dr. Ana Aslan’s original formula. No alterations have been made to the active ingredients. The tablets are now enteric-coated rather than sugar-coated. It is correctly manufactured and true to the original brand of Gerovital-H3 that has been used regularly and trusted by millions of people as a prime anti-aging supplement.
Gerovital is rightly considered a "pro-vitamin" defined as a compound that leads directly to the formation of vitamins in the human body. As such, Gerovital is protected for sale by the Dietary Supplements Act of 1994. GH3 is regarded as a nutritional supplement with implied medicinal value and is officially listed in the Merck Index as Vitamin H3.
Our price is about 75% less than the Romanian-made product. The lab analyses and the personal results both attest to the fact that TMI's Gerovital is the total equivalent of the Romanian product in both formulation and action.
Take one to two capsules per day on an empty stomach (two to three hours after meals) over a period of 12 days. If taking two capsules per day, the dose should be taken on an empty stomach at least six hours after the first dose. After 12 days, stop taking Gerovital for one month and then repeat. If two capsules per day are too stimulating, lower the dosage to one per day and take in the morning or early afternoon.
Do not confuse the procaine taken orally with the prescription procaine given by injection only under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
Digoxin (Lanoxin) interacts with procaine and may cause decreased heart function.
Muscle relaxants and anti-depressants interact with procaine.
Gerovital should not be administered simultaneously with suphonamides (inactivation), eserine or prostigmine
